Gifts Made with Purpose: A Holiday Gift Guide 2016

Stumped on what to get the “dude” in your life this holiday season? Allow us to help. We know a few things about what guys want. After all, we are a business of four generations of men.

Check out these awesome gifts from our favorite Made with Purpose partners from 2016. These companies share our focus on quality, integrity, and the pursuit of handmade craftsmanship.

1. American Bench Craft

(Reading, MA) Started by brothers Jason and Chris, American Bench Craft was founded with a simple vision: make a better wallet. All their products are handcrafted in their own workshop using traditional techniques and hand tools. The brothers have expanded the business to include a wide array of leather goods. While we admire everything they do, we especially love the simplicity and ruggedness of the Rum Runner Nautical Leather Cord Double Wrap Bracelet with Antique Brass Hook Clasp. ($28).

2. Wax & Wick

(Chicago, IL) A year and a half ago, high school friends Kevin & Joe set out on a quest – to source and sell high quality soy wax candles. Unfortunately, they couldn’t find anyone who could make them, at least not to the standards they wanted. Eight months, endless trials, and 50 pounds of soy wax later, the guys found the perfect man candle, and started Wax & Wick. We had a chance to sample almost all the scents these guys have to offer, and while they’re all nice, we love the richness of the Wax & Wick Espresso Candle which gives off a scintillating roasted coffee and chocolate aroma. ($25).

3. Fulton & Roark

(Winston-Salem, North Carolina) Men’s grooming products can’t just be made from good stuff – they also have to be easy to use and make a real difference for them to be worthwhile, and that’s the guiding mission behind Fulton & Roark. They seek to make grooming a pleasure, and they’ve done just that with the Fulton & Roark Bar Soap, formulated with Moroccan Red Clay, Eucalyptus, Sage, and Black Spruce Oils. ($16)

4. Stock Mfg. Co.

(Chicago, IL) Premium men’s clothing straight from the factory – that’s Stock Mfg. Co.’s mission. Founder Jim Snediker build a stylish clothing line from the ground up with tenacity and self-made initiative. Some of their equipment is over 100 years old, showing that quality does stand the test of time, and so does their high quality clothing line. We love the versatility and manliness of the Washed Out Denim Shirt — a piece that could impress from the jerky factory to a Downtown LA happy hour. ($74)

5. Sword & Plough

“I wanted to create something,” explains co-founder Emily Núñez Cavness, “that would emotionally and physically touch civilians in their everyday lives and remind them, in a beautiful way, of the challenges our country and servicemen face.” Enough said. Sword & Plough makes awesome stuff for an awesome purpose. They are a socially responsible fashion brand that incorporates military material into their product designs. We think the Green Compact Travel Kit perfectly embodies the simplicity and utility of these awesome products. ($45)

6. Benjamin Bott Designs

(Gloucester, MA) Wine, wives and hand-stitched leather wallets. Some things just get better with age. Benjamin Bott founder, Ben, understands this, which is why he set out to create his own line of durable, craft leather wallets by teaching himself the process. He writes, "it was a process of trial and error... an important process that has shaped how I create my products and myself as a craftsman." We’re certainly glad he did, because we love his leather wallets. Check out our personal favorite, the “Seagull” Bi-Fold English Tan. ($85)

7. Schon DSGN

(Boston, MA) The goal of Schon DSGN is to create heirloom quality products without compromises. This means using proper materials and going through rigorous finishing processes to ensure the highest level of craft makes it into the products. Each writing utensil is inspected by founder and owner Ian before packaging and shipment. Schon offers the unique opportunity to purchase something you can keep and pass down for future generations. We lean towards the Schon DSGN #01S – Tumbled Stainless Steel as a beautiful illustration of the elegance and design of Ian’s work. ($100).

8. Tawny Goods

(Los Angeles, CA) College friends Jared and Will started Tawny Goods with a simple goal: quality leather footwear at an affordable price. Today, they partner with some of North America’s foremost leather makers in Leon, Mexico to produce timeless, hand-stitched shoes and boots. From the exterior down to the sole, every pair of Tawny Goods shoes is 100%, full grain, grade-A leather. Comfortable enough to wear every day, but stylish enough to wear to that important work meeting or hot date. Dress to impress with our personal favorite the Toecap Boot in Black. ($238)

9. Compliance Edge Knives

(San Jose, CA) Every man needs a bad-ass knife and Yoni at Compliance Edge Knives is the man to deliver. His tactical style knives are handmade to the highest standards for design, quality, and functionality. These knives are made to last a lifetime and that’s the type of quality a true man needs. There is a unique beauty to each of Yoni’s knives, but we especially love the Vendetta II. Careful though. ($395)
